If you only had one day to soak up the heart and soul of Austin, where would you go? It’s a nearly impossible question—this city has so many sides—but if I had to plan the perfect 24 hours, here’s how I’d do it:
Morning:
We’d kick it off with a sunrise walk around Lady Bird Lake. There’s something about the morning light hitting the water that never gets old. Then we’d swing by Rosita’s Al Pastor food truck for some of the best breakfast tacos in town—simple, authentic, and absolutely worth getting up early for.
Late Morning:
After breakfast, we’d wander through South Congress. Window shopping at local boutiques, snapping a photo in front of the “I Love You So Much” mural, and grabbing an iced coffee at Jo’s. It's touristy, yes—but it’s also still pure Austin magic if you know when to go.
Lunch:
We’d head over to Clarksville for a laid-back lunch at Swedish Hill. Sitting on the patio with a turkey avocado sandwich and people-watching feels perfectly Austin—easy, stylish without trying too hard.
Afternoon:
This is when we get back outdoors. We could rent paddle boards and cruise along Lady Bird Lake, taking in skyline views from the water, or, if you’re feeling adventurous, spend the afternoon boating on Lake Austin. Either way, a little time on the water is basically a requirement here.
Evening:
Dinner at Jeffrey’s in Clarksville—old Austin charm, incredible food, and a glass of something special. Then maybe catch live music at The Continental Club, or if you’re feeling a little more low-key, an evening stroll through Zilker Park to watch the skyline light up.
Final Stop:
End the night with a scoop of Amy’s Ice Creams—because in Austin, you’re never too old for sprinkles.
There’s no one way to do Austin right—but this day hits all the best parts: beauty, flavor, music, and a little bit of weird. Just the way we like it.
