How Do I Know If It’s the Right Time for Me to Move?
This is one of the most common questions I’m asked - and it usually comes quietly.
Not as, “Is now a good time to buy or sell?”
But more like, “I’m starting to wonder if it’s time… how do I know?”
The truth is, there isn’t a single right answer. And there definitely isn’t one perfect moment that applies to everyone.
It’s Not Just About the Market
Market conditions matter, of course. But most real estate decisions aren’t driven by charts or headlines.
They’re driven by life.
A job change. A growing family. A home that no longer fits the way you live. A feeling that something needs to shift — even if you can’t quite name it yet.
When those things start showing up, that’s often when the question of moving enters the picture.
Life Timing vs. Market Timing
One thing I share often with clients is this:
life timing usually matters more than market timing.
Waiting for a “perfect” market can sometimes mean staying stuck longer than you need to. On the other hand, rushing into a move because you feel pressure rarely feels good either.
The goal is alignment — not perfection.
A Few Questions Worth Sitting With
Instead of asking whether now is the right time, it can be more helpful to ask:
-
Does my current home still support how I live today?
-
Am I staying because it truly makes sense - or because change feels heavy?
-
If nothing changed in the market this year, would I still want to move?
-
What would feel most supportive for the next chapter of my life?
These are not questions you need to answer all at once. But they often bring clarity faster than statistics ever will.
You Don’t Have to Be “Ready” to Reach Out
Many people wait to have everything figured out before talking to a broker. In reality, some of the most helpful conversations happen well before a decision is made.
There’s no pressure. No timeline requirement. Just an opportunity to talk things through.
Sometimes the right next step isn’t moving at all.
It’s simply understanding your options - calmly and without urgency.
